Description

A rectangular galvanometer is a laboratory instrument used for measuring small electric currents. It consists of a rectangular coil of wire, known as the moving coil, suspended within a fixed magnetic field produced by a permanent magnet or an electromagnet. When a current is passed through the coil, it experiences a torque due to the interaction between the magnetic field and the current-carrying wires, causing the coil to rotate.

The degree of rotation of the coil is proportional to the strength of the current passing through it. A pointer attached to the coil indicates the degree of rotation on a scale, allowing the current to be measured. Rectangular galvanometers are often used in laboratory settings for precise current measurements in electrical circuits, and are commonly used in experiments related to electricity and magnetism.
